just to state the obvious superwoman i am not

I feel like the biggest loser on the planet whining about HOW INCREDIBLY TIRED I am learning to cope between this work-home-life balance thing, but *yawn
here I go again....

When I'm at work I give it my all. I'm pretty good at my job. It's full on, busy, being pulled in all directions the entire day, putting on a happy face to clients and I can totally pull it off and then some.
Yet it comes at a price.
Once I get in the car to drive home,
utter exhaustion.

I worked 3 days in a row last week and have taken what I thought as two days to recover before I return tomorrow.
It's Gooseman's birthday today "Happy Birthday (again) my awesome hot as Goose xoxo"...

Anyway, I thought, today, since it's Monday and I love Mondays when everyone is back to School and Work that I'd clean the house since it's hardly been done in a month of me working AND bake Gooseman a Birthday cake. (I also haven't baked anything in over a month). Sounds pretty simple to me. Something I did without barely batting an eyelid 2 months ago.

But it wasn't. At all.

I have been trying to bake this cake since 10am this morning.
It is now almost 5pm.

To begin with I was missing 3 major ingredients.

Which I had to go to the shop for 3 separate times.

INSANE

And just as I have gone to ice the cake I've realised I have no icing sugar. Too emabarrased and rather frustrated to return to the supermarket AGAIN this afternoon I've sent Newsboy down on his scooter.

Big Sigh.

We truly can't do it all.
I knew I should have ordered a cake from the mall.

Are there manuals on how to adjust to this life change? Maybe I might write one so when other people venture into this doing it all world they'll be comforted knowing they arent the only ones with 5 inch thick dust covering their entire home and a pantry that is full of I don't know what anymore.

But in saying that I am having fun. Really.

Just.need.a.cleaner.
and.cook.

Its just going to take time...and others in the family picking up the slack, instead of just YOU doing it ALL. You'll get there Widge!

Finally just iced the cake and realised I didn't put eggs in it !!!!! Scream
Wondered why it took so long to cook.

I've NEVER been able to make a cake in one day working or not working.the egg thing is me all over too. probably still tastes nice tho, just lots of ice cream on the side x

Yeah - get a cleaner... that's what people keep telling me, although I'm going to try doing it myself and roping the family in. First day at work today and will be doing 5 days a week so have decided to enforce Sat as our day of rest, and Sun arvo as cleaning for an hour or so. Working well so far... although only day 1!

I hear ya... Tiredness is tiring! Yeah for me too it's working out how to strike the balance in it all, where's dat manual??

Sounds like hard yakker but I am sure it will all be worth it as you start to reap in the brain food.

I'm not working but some days I feel exactly the same....the chores are just endless!

I read somewhere recently that housework is defying gravity....no matter how hard you attack it you know you have to do it all over again...and soon! Perhaps it was one of you ladies?

Anyway hang in there & yeh I'd try & get a cleaner (uni students are always good...that's what I used to do!) & just buy the cakes from the mall!

Or you could do what I did this year - got a really lovely muffin & some cool number candles, stuck them in wallah...a. birthday cake of sorts!

there is no easy answer. It IS exhausting.
Don't bake.
Thats what you work for To BUY the food. ;
Some people can juggle all of it, but not many.
if any....
;)

Exhausting yip but it does get better and crazier. When I was teaching full time weekends sure were precious, A cleaner is a REALLY good idea. It means you aren't spending all weekend doing it. Good luck hun x

Hey friend!! Yep, it's hard. And when I go back MJ has said yes to the cleaner, just because it took a real toll on me working and keeping up with it all. I figure a couple of hours to give the bathroom and kitchen a real good go over and then I can try the rest :) Did you stick with the cake? - will be less calories :) haha. Happy birthday to Gooseman. Hope it's a great day for you all!!

(and yay for a child old enough to pop back and pick up the icing sugar!!)

I think you should write a manual!
Your sense humour would be appreciated by many I am sure!

love and light

ps Happy birthday Goose!!!

Ah yes...it sure is a juggle alright and any change in routine no matter HOW small is usually enough to throw things into complete disarray - well it is in our house anyway!

I'm sure Gooseman loved the effort anyway :-)

I am a couple of months down the track. Working two jobs and running my house, looking after kids.
1. Drink oodles of coffee, buy V if you are out.
2. Lower your standards.
3. Quick vacuum/dishes/tidy while kids in bath.
4. Washing - load in evening and catch up on days off.
5. Online supermarket shopping.
6. Have a few EASY as cake/biscuit recipes - only do when you feel like it.
7. Afternoon nap in the weekend
8. Lower your standards!!!!!!!!
9. Yell at kids to get things done (I feel like I do this most working mornings - sucks). And make them do a bit more round the house.
xx

The minuet I get a job we are getting a cleaner. I can't keep my house tidy and I'm not even working. I figure for 1-2 hours of my pay to have the main jobs done it would be worth it. I bake because I love it. perios. you can buy most stuff for pretty reasonable. Be kind to yourself and make sure things are being evernly shared at home. Except on the Gooseman's birthday!

Oh boy. This is the hugest struggle I have, finding that balance.
I have had to sift through my priorities and find what matters. And get help...!
I need a clean house- I got a cleaner.
I wanted baked goods for Rupi's birthday (as good as I would make them)- I got Delissimon to make them for me.
A cooked dinner is not that important to me, I let it slide. We still eat well, it's just not me slaving over a hot stove.
You'll find what works for you and what matters to you. Let the rest slide xxx
P.S. You're awesome xxx

Hi Widge - just letting you know that I love reading your blog. :-) Keep up the good work. I love Dana's Chocolate Cake too but the Edmonds packet cakes are also a sneaky way to look domesticated. GUILTY!!
